4. ‘Half A Game’ policy

At South Gower RFC we operate a 'Half A Game' policy which means guaranteed game-time for all young players at the club, whereby all U6s to U11s are given the opportunity to take part in a minimum of 'Half A Game'. For U12s to U16s equal play is expected and recommended for U19s.

'Half A Game' is our framework for a more engaging and fun rugby environment that promotes positive sporting experiences for children, encouraging them to be involved in the game for life, and hopefully keeping our grassroots clubs alive.

'Half A Game' is part of Welsh Rugby's overarching remit to engage more people, more often, with more enjoyment and more success. The feedback gathered from clubs reveals that young players are more likely to keep coming back when they are given greater opportunities to reach their playing potential in a fun and inclusive environment.

The adoption is testament to the enthusiasm and passion of the children, coaches and parents already involved at the club and those we hope to attract in the future.

More than 1000 teams across 175 clubs have adopted 'Half A Game' ensuring over 20,000 boys and girls are given the opportunity to take part in a minimum of half a game on weekends.
